Alicia Rando

Violin

Spanish violinist, she began studying violin at the age of five with Professor María Popa, graduating with honours from the Professional Conservatory of Music of Teruel. She completed her Bachelor's degree in Music at the Conservatory of Music of Aragón in Zaragoza in June 2015 (at the age of 16) and obtained a Master's in Solo Performance (MIS) from the Katarina Gurska Center in Madrid. At the same time, and since the age of eight, she trained with Professor Sergey Fatkulin in Madrid and Kirill Troussov in Munich. At the age of 20, she earned a Professional Studies Certificate (Doctorate level) from the Manhattan School of Music in New York, where she studied under Peter Winograd and Patinka Kopec.

In performance

At the age of eight, she gave two solo concerts in May 2006, and in November 2008 she debuted as a soloist with the Castellón Symphony Orchestra conducted by Wolfgang Czeipek in Albacete. In 2011, she was invited by the Spivakov Foundation to perform at the closing concert of the "Moscow Meets Friends" Festival in Moscow (Russia) and at a concert at the Ehemalige Spanische Residenz in Bonn (Germany). Notable performances include the Cádiz Spanish Music Festival in 2009, the 30th Introduction to Music Cycle, where she performed with the Symphony Orchestra of the Teatro Lírico de Zaragoza in 2010, the "Fiestas del Pilar" Cycle in 2011 with a recital at the Zaragoza Auditorium, three concerts with the Royal Philharmonic of Galicia conducted by Maximino Zumalave, and her participation in the Young Performers Cycle at the Palau de la Música in Valencia with the Valencia Symphony Orchestra under Constantino Martínez Orts in 2012.

In 2012, she performed Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto Op. 35 in two concerts in Manizales and Medellín (Colombia) with the Antioquia Youth Symphony Orchestra conducted by Camilo Giraldo and participated in the closing concert of the London International Music Course at Queen Elizabeth Hall in London (UK). In 2013 and 2014, she returned to the Ehemalige Spanische Residenz in Bonn (Germany) and performed two concerts at the Shenzhen Concert Hall in Shenzhen (China). In November 2015, she performed Kurt Weill's Concerto for Violin and Wind Orchestra Op. 12 at the Zaragoza Auditorium with the Sinfonietta Orchestra conducted by Miquel Rodrigo. In March 2017, she performed Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 1 with the Royal Site Symphony Orchestra under Vicente Alberola. In October 2017, she participated in the first edition of "Córdoba e i suoi cortili" at the "La Verdi" hall in the Milan Auditorium (Italy).

In 2019, she represented Spain at the "International Students Concert and Gala" of the Manhattan School of Music in Miller Hall, New York. In December 2021, as a member of the Hiberus Trio, she performed two concerts in Huesca and Zaragoza as part of the CSMA Young Talents Cycle with the García-Esteban Foundation. In 2022, she took part in the presentation of the "Festival Tocando el Cielo" in Zaragoza, the ASEAd FSPPP 2021 Gala in Malaysia, the 15th Anniversary Gala of Transdiaspora Network with Descemer Bueno and Roman Díaz in Brooklyn (NYC), a live performance organised by the local Brooklyn community, and the Closing Gala of the New York Human Rights Film Festival.

In 2023, she performed at the Tribute Concert for Maestro Antón García Abril in Teruel and at the 78th Anniversary Celebration of the UN General Assembly at Stern/Perelman, Carnegie Hall in New York. In March 2024, she performed as a guest artist at the Global Women in Music concert with the United Nations Symphony Orchestra. In November 2024, she performed Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto with the CSMA Symphony Orchestra in a series of concerts in Aragón; during that tour she also gave a masterclass for violin students at the CSMA. In December 2024, she participated in the 79th Anniversary Celebration of the UN General Assembly at Stern/Perelman, Carnegie Hall. In March 2025, she performed as guest artist and concertmaster at the Global Women in Music concert with the United Nations Symphony Orchestra, and in December 2025 she made her solo debut at Carnegie Hall, Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage, during the 80th Anniversary Celebration of the UN General Assembly. In March 2026 she performed as concertmaster of the United Nations Symphony Orchestra for the Global Women in Music concert held at Symphony Space in New York.

Radio and television

She has been featured in several radio programmes on Aragón Radio and television reports for Channel 2 of Televisión Española, Aragón Televisión, and the programme "Young Soloists" on Televisión Española and regional television, accompanied by pianist Sergey Bezrodny. In April 2022, she was interviewed on the "New Talents" programme of La Partytura for Toro TV.

Competitions and awards

She won the Best String Instrument Artist award and second prize at the 7th National Performance Competition "Intercentros Melómano", having won first prize in the Aragón regional phase. In 2009, she received third prize at the 11th "Villa de Llanes" International Violin Competition in the under-16 category. In 2010, she won first prize at the 3rd National Violin Competition in memory of Marcos Pedro Moreno in Cabra (Córdoba) and first prize at the 8th "Violins for Peace" International Violin Competition in Torres (Jaén). In 2018, she was a finalist in the Permanent Competition of Juventudes Musicales de España. In 2021, she participated in the 22nd "Villa de Llanes" International Violin Competition, and in 2022 in the Permanent Competition of Juventudes Musicales de España in Madrid. In 2023, she was a finalist and received the Best Spanish Music Performer award at the 5th G. Gershwin International Competition in New York.

Masterclasses

She has attended training courses and masterclasses with Kyrill Trousov, Nikita Boriso-Glebsky, Elmar Oliveira, Mario Hossen, Roi Shiloa, Massimo Quarta, Friedemann Breuninger and Mikylah Myers McTeer.

Beyond the concert hall

Beyond her work in music, Alicia was a Youth Ambassador for Transdiaspora Network, an NGO with consultative status at ECOSOC at the United Nations. As a Transdiaspora Network Intercultural Youth Fellow, she participated in the UN75 Youth Plenary in September 2020. In November 2021, she was appointed Youth Ambassador of Transdiaspora Network, delivering a speech at the 60th Commission for Social Development (CSoD60) in February 2022 and participating in the UN ECOSOC Youth Forum talks in April 2022. In July 2022, she attended sessions of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, giving speeches and contributing comments at several side events. During this forum, she formally presented her educational intervention programme, "MU2AL", to various Permanent Missions. She also took part in the United Nations Education Transformation Summit and attended the 77th session of the UN General Assembly as an NGO representative in September. In April 2023, she represented Transdiaspora Network at the ECOSOC Youth Forum 2023. She designed an educational intervention programme through music, MU2AL, implemented in several New York City schools in partnership with the Liberty Partnership Program at Medgar Evers College. This programme was presented at the New York City Bar Association and explained at the Thames British School in Madrid.

For her achievements, she received recognition and distinction for merits in the arts and education from the "Dr. Otto Federico von Feigenblatt Interuniversity Lecture Series for Peace, Development, and Education" and the "Royal Academy of Doctors of Spain".

She is currently an Artist-in-Residence at the International Academy for Art and Cultural Studies (IAA).
